Class of ’71

Many great skin tubes, objects, and creative things were released onto the planet in 1971. Here are just a few.

Jens Voigt, cycling’s Chuck Norris

“Jens Voigt doesn’t read books. He simply attacks until the books relent and tell him everything he wants to know.”

“Jens once challenged Lance Armstrong to see who had more testicles. Jens won by 5”

Ok, if people make up facts about how awesome you are, there’s a chance you’re pretty kick arse. Here’s the thing. Jens is a hard man. He is loyal and he doesn’t give up. He is a legend. The end. No one has made me respect the role of domestiques more than Jens. I’ve learned more about honor and giving your all for the greater goal from watching this guy than from any book I could read, and that’s a lesson that ripples out of cycling and into life. Jens is the man. Jens is my favorite German on the planet (and I do know more than one.)

Favorite Jens quote:

“Shut up legs!”

Michael C. Hall, that lovable serial killer

Winona Ryder, Original pixie

Jon Hamm, Funnier than you

Sean Astin, Hobbit AND Goonie

Christina Applegate, Kick ass lady

Nathan Fillion, Canadian bacon

Do I really need to explain the awesome contained (barely) within the Captain? Entertainment Weekly called him a Geek God. Yes. He is.

Phwar! God of Underthings Dropping.

And he’s better, better than Neil.

And if you’ve never seen Dr. Horrible’ Sing-along-blog. I dunno… give up life?

Favorite Fillion quote:

“BAM! said the lady. Move on.”

The French Connection

Hey, haircut. Popeye Doyle in yer grill. All you Grand Theft Auto freaks out there, best know where all those mad-crazy streets come from.

Favorite Popeye Doyle quote:

“You still picking your feet in Poughkeepsie?”

Matt Stone, half a book of Mormon

Mark Wahlberg, Actor type

Ewan McGregor, Motorcycles and light sabers

David Tennant, Sonic screwdriver wielder

Sacha Baron Cohen, Ali G in da house

Alan Tudyk, Leaf on the wind

Luke Wilson, Tennenbaum

Amy Poehler, Ruler of Pawnee’s parks

Jonathan Ke Quan, Indy! Cover your heart!

Joel McHale, Community soup kitchen

James Callis, Gaius Baltar, hello!

Johnny Knoxville, Total Jackass

Rob Corddry, Not helping with my fear of clowns

Chris Hardwick, Nerdist and podcast ruler

The Day of the Jackal

The book, not the movie, appeared on bookshelves in 1971. It’s also kinda where this memoir got its name.:)

I’ve run out of time to flesh out this list. When I get back from the Day of the Jackhole ride, I’ll continue throughout the day to add to it.

What do you think?

Please keep your comments polite and on-topic.
