The best ideas are half baked. Not well thought out. They exist to be seasoned, mixed, eaten and partially digested.

I’ve been riding a bicycling a lot lately. Miles and miles. Further and further I go. I do a century. On rollers.

An idea puts itself in a roasting pan and places itself in the dumb ideas oven inside my brain.

What would it be like to ride a bicycle across America?

I look into it. The idea starts to sizzle. Pretty soon, the juices of this idea begin to leak out of me. At bars and social events.

“Oh, yeah. I’m thinking about riding across America.”

Small, dumb-idea shrug.

And then there’s that point. When you stick the thermometer in and it’s done. You’ve talked about it so much, you actually end up having to do it.
